Summary
This summary is here to help you read the terms. It doesn't replace them.
- Cursor is a Discord bot for moderation, member verification, alt-account detection and member restores.
- Server owners decide how Cursor is used in their server and are responsible for the moderation decisions they make with it.
- When you verify, you allow Cursor to check your device signature, IP address and browser state, and to add you to a replacement server if the server you verified in is terminated.
- No detection is perfect. Cursor can't detect proxies, and it can make mistakes.
- Don't use Cursor to harass, track or expose anyone, or to get around Discord's rules.
- You can remove Cursor from your server or revoke its access to your account at any time.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") are an agreement between you and cursor.social ("Cursor", "we", "us"). They apply when you add the Cursor bot to a Discord server, verify through Cursor, use Cursor's commands, or visit cursor.social (together, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
If you add Cursor to a server on behalf of a community, team or organisation, you confirm that you're allowed to accept these Terms for it.
2. Who can use Cursor
To use the Service you must:
- be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required to use Discord in your country if that's higher;
- have a Discord account in good standing and follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines; and
- not be barred from using the Service under these Terms or the law that applies to you.
3. What Cursor does
Cursor gives Discord servers four kinds of tools:
- Verification. Members verify through Discord's official OAuth2 sign-in on cursor.social.
- Alt-account detection. When a member verifies, Cursor uses our own analysis together with a second-party verification service to check device signatures, IP addresses and browser states against accounts the server has banned or blacklisted. Accounts that match can be held in detention until staff decide what to do.
- Moderation and anti-raid. Commands and automatic protections that help staff respond to raids and enforce their rules.
- Member restore. If a server is terminated, the owner can ask Cursor to add the members who verified in that server to a new server.
Features may differ between servers depending on how each server is set up.
4. Server owners and staff
If you add Cursor to a server or manage it there, you're responsible for how it's used in that server. In particular, you agree to:
- tell your members that your server uses Cursor for verification and alt detection, for example by linking our Privacy Policy in your verification channel;
- use Cursor only to moderate and protect your server, and not to harass, punish or single out people for reasons that have nothing to do with keeping your community safe;
- review detections before acting on them where it matters, since Cursor can be wrong (see Detection limits);
- keep your own server rules, and the reasons you give for bans, accurate and lawful; and
- comply with the laws that apply to you and your community, including privacy laws.
The moderation decisions made in your server, such as detaining, releasing, kicking or banning someone, are yours, not ours.
5. Members who verify
When you verify with Cursor, you authorise us to:
- receive basic details about your Discord account from Discord (the
identifyscope); - collect and analyse your device signature, IP address and browser state to check for links to banned or blacklisted accounts;
- share the result of that check with the staff of the server you're verifying for; and
- add you to a replacement server if the server you verified in is terminated and its owner starts a restore (the
guilds.joinscope).
We only use the guilds.join permission to restore you to a replacement for a server you verified in. You can revoke this at any time in Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps, or by contacting us. If you revoke it, you won't be included in future restores. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Cursor to harass, stalk, threaten, dox or expose anyone, or to work out someone's identity or location;
- try to get around Cursor's detection, for example by spoofing device or browser signals, or help others do so;
- use Cursor to raid, spam or disrupt other servers;
- reverse engineer, scrape, overload or attack the Service, or access it in ways we didn't intend;
- submit false reports or ban people on purpose to get their data recorded;
- resell or redistribute the Service, or results from it, without our written permission; or
- use the Service in a way that breaks Discord's terms or the law.
7. Detection limits
Alt detection is based on signals, and signals can be shared, changed or hidden. Please keep the following in mind:
- We cannot detect proxies.
- We can detect VPNs, unusual IP addresses, and IP addresses near those of a blacklisted person, but not in every case.
- People in the same household, school, workplace or network can share devices or IP ranges. This can cause false positives.
- A determined person may avoid detection.
Cursor gives server staff information to make decisions with. It doesn't guarantee that every alt account will be caught, or that every detection is correct.
8. Restore limits
Restores depend on Discord. We'll do our best to restore every verified member, but we can't guarantee it. In particular:
- members who revoked Cursor's access, deleted their account, or are banned by Discord can't be restored;
- Discord limits how quickly members can be added to a server, so large restores can take time;
- Discord may limit the number of servers a member can join, or change its API, which can affect restores; and
- restores bring back members. Channels, roles, messages and settings are not part of a restore unless we say otherwise.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep Cursor running, but the Service is provided as it is and as available. It may be interrupted by maintenance, outages at Discord or our providers, or events outside our control. We may add, change or remove features over time. If a change significantly reduces what Cursor does for you, we'll try to give notice in our support server first.
10. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Cursor at any time: server owners can remove the bot from their server, and members can revoke Cursor's access in Discord.
We may suspend or end access to the Service for a user or server, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe they have broken these Terms, put other users at risk, or exposed us to legal liability. Where it's practical and safe, we'll tell you why.
Sections 6, 7, 8 and 12 to 16 continue to apply after your use of the Service ends.
11. Discord and third parties
Cursor is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Discord Inc. Your use of Discord is governed by Discord's own terms. The Service relies on Discord and on other providers, such as hosting and verification services, and we aren't responsible for their availability or actions.
12. Our content
The Service, including the bot, the website, our logo and our designs, belongs to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service under these Terms. We keep all other rights.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
13. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that it will catch every alt account or raid.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Cursor and the people who run it won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or community members, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. This includes decisions made by server staff based on Cursor's results, and members who couldn't be restored.
Where liability can't be excluded, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.
Some places don't allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
15. Indemnity
If you use Cursor in a way that breaks these Terms or the law, and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, damages and legal fees that result, to the extent the law allows.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where cursor.social's operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the mandatory consumer protection laws of the country you live in.
If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll announce them in our support server before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
